POLITICAL ORGANIZATION IMPROVING THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THE POLITICAL PROCESS SINCE THE 1960'S.
The Black Organization for Leadership Development (BOLD) is a civically driven Political Organization, based in New Orleans that has been influential in politics since the 1960's. Since it's inception, BOLD has worked tirelessly to better the community through the political process, while focused on citizen engagement.
Darren G. Mire, President
Darren is a successful businessman and former Assessor of the First Municipal District which is an office he held and honorably served for 8 1/2 years until consolidation of the 7 Municipal Districts. He now serves as Director of Valuation for the newly formed Orleans Parish Assessor’s Office, where he supervises the mass appraisal of over 168,000 parcels. He also serves on the Louisiana Board of Regents for Higher Education, and previously served 8 years on the Southern University Board of Supervisors (Chairman 2011-2012).
Honorable Jay H. Banks. Operations Chief
Jay currently serves as the New Orleans City Councilperson for District B. His public service spans 3 decades, serving as a Council aide, Chief of Staff, Strategist, and many other roles in city government. He also serves on the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival's Board of Directors.
Honorable Austin Badon, Member
Austin currently serves as the Clerk of First City Court. His love for public service began when he was a City Council Aide. After college, he honorably served in the Louisiana House of Representatives (District 100) for 3 consecutive terms (12 years). He could not seek another term due to term limits. He also worked in higher education at the collegiate level and in the non profit sector.
Ryan Banks, Member
Ryan Banks has been a Public Servant for over 6 years. He is a Small Business Owner and works in Graphic Design (Roux7 www.roux7.com). He is also an elected Member of the Orleans Parish Democratic Executive Committee where he serves on the Executive Board as Sergeant at Arms.
Eileen Carter, Member
Eileen has been a Small Business Owner, Radio Personality, and worked in the non profit sector. She currently works in City Government on the Mayor of New Orleans Communications Staff. She is also an elected Member of the Orleans Parish Democratic Executive Committee.
This was a very proud day for our organization. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards came to New Orleans to personally endorse Jay and his candidacy for City Council. This was the only local election in which the Governor made an endorsement.
Sidney H. Cates, V, Political Director
Sidney has been a Public Servant for the City of New Orleans for over two decades, earning several awards and commendations. He is an elected Member of the Orleans Parish Democratic Executive Committee (OPDEC) which is the local arm of the Democratic Party. He serves his constituency in Council District D and was elected by colleagues as Vice-Chair of Operations on the Executive Board. He also serves on the Orleans Parish Board of Election Supervisors as the Governor's Appointee (elected Sergeant at Arms).
Avis Brock, Member
Avis has been a community activist for over 3 decades. She currently works in the non profit sector and is an elected Member of the Orleans Parish Democratic Executive Committee where she serves on the Executive Board as Secretary.
Catherine D. Cates, Member
Catherine has worked in the Public, Private, and Non-Profit sectors. She worked in City and State Government for a Tax Assessor and numerous State Senators. She now works in Early Childhood Education as an Administrator. She is also an elected Member of the Orleans Parish Democratic Executive Committee.
Gizelle Johnson Banks, Member
Gizelle is an Accountant, and CFO of a large Charter School network in New Orleans. She is an active Member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorrority, Inc. Gizelle is also an elected Member of the Orleans Parish Democratic Executive Committee.
John DiLosa, Member
John is an engineer and owns a small photography business. He is an active member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He is also an elected Member of the Jefferson Parish Democratic Executive Committee
Below you will find our virtual ballot with our recommendations for the upcoming Election. Our Membership personally vets every candidate who qualifies for elected office, then interview each one individually in a Q&A session. We then deliberate on all candidates. After deliberating, our membership votes on which candidate/s we endorse. Everything is done using a democratic process.
